Rabat – Morocco’s government has decided to add more countries to its list of destinations, from which passengers are not allowed in its territory amid concerns regarding the appearance of a new COVID-19 strain.
After suspension of flights for travelers from South Africa, Morocco also decided to prohibit access of passengers coming from Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho, Eswatini, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe.
The decision also concerns passengers coming from or having passed through the listed countries.
The decision is part of Morocco’s preventive measures, seeking to prevent the spread of new COVID-19 variants.
The announcement came in response to the emergence of a new variant in several countries in southern Africa.

The Moroccan government introduced additional travel restrictions on Thursday, announcing the suspension of flights from and to France.
Initially, the government said the suspension will begin today at midnight. Yesterday, late at night, Royal Air Maroc announced that Morocco delayed its decision to suspend flights from and to France until Sunday.
Several countries took similar decisions, banning travel from countries with new COVID-19 variants.
The UK today similarly suspended direct flights from six African countries, including Botswana.
