Miami – Chelsea’s owner, Russian billionaire, Roman Abramovich, declared his support for José Mourinho during a ‘blues’ board meeting on Sunday morning.
The club currently stands in the 16th place at the Premier League after another loss against Southampton (3-1). This adds to a series of internal problems, poor performances, weakened morale.
According to the Daily Mail, Abramovich said he would continue to support Mourinho as manager of the club.
Meanwhile, Mourinho has made it clear in his interviews that he wouldl not leave the ‘blues’ unless they fire him. After receiving his boss’ support he could be feeling even more confident.
“If the club wants to sack me they have to sack me because I am not running away,” said Mourinho following Chelsea’s defeat against Southampton.
Even though in previous statements Abramovich said Mourinho was to blame for the Chelsea’s poor performance and that he was not happy with him, he is giving another chance to the Portuguese coach.
Despite his team’s poor start to the season, Mourniho still considers himself “the best coach” Chelsea has ever had.
“It is a crucial moment in the history of this club because if they sack me they sack the best manager this club has ever had” he said.
“You know that I have a big self-esteem and a big ego, I consider myself the best,” he added.
Abramovich is known for firing his coaches when they do not perform to his high expectations and Mourinho will have to pull it together and bring a victory to his boss if he wants to keep coaching the ‘blues’.
