Rabat – Paramount Pictures released the trailer for its new film “Allied” on YouTube last week.

The trailer features Morocco as one of the locations in which scenes from the romantic thriller were filmed.

American actor Brad Pitt and French actress Marion Cotillard co-star this movie set during World War II.

“Allied” tells the story of intelligence officer Max Vattan (Pitt) and French resistance fighter Marianne Beausejor (Cotillard).  Both are highly-trained assassins who fall in love during a secret mission in Casablanca to kill the German ambassador to Morocco.  However, their love will undergo an unexpected turn when Pitt’s character learns  his new wife is a “double agent” working for the Nazi government. His new orders: kill her.

“Allied” was written by Steven Knight and directed by Robert Zemeckis.

Pitt, with American actress Cate Blanchett, filmed in the movie “Babel” in the remote village of Tagunzalt, just south of Ouarzazate in 2006.

Pitt was scheduled to film the movie, Troy, in Morocco in 2003, but, at the last minute, the director switched to another location.

Casablanca has recently become one of the preferred destinations for international filmmakers.  It has been the scene of numerous hits, such as “Mission Impossible” – and “Rogue Nation” starring Tom Cruise.

Many blockbuster movies have been shot in Moroccan territory, including “Prison Break;” “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk,” “Les Nouvelles Aventures d’Aladin,”

Last year, British news website The Guardian ranked Morocco among the Top 10 Destinations for worldwide filmmakers. Many regard the country as an “exotic” and “spiritual” place by virtue of its picturesque and stunning landscapes and ancient cities such as Ouarzazate, which is known as the “Moroccan Hollywood.”

Well-known films such as “Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra,” “Lawrence of Arabia,” “The Man Would Be King,” “Kingdom of Heaven,” and “Babel” have all been shot in Ouarzazate.

“Allied” will have a premiere debut in theaters on November 23, 2016.
