Rabat – Around 700,000 Moroccans have taken literacy classes as part of illiteracy eradication programs in 2010-2011.
Morocco’s literacy promotion efforts led to a reduction of illiteracy rate from 43% in 2004 to around 30% in 2010, the Illiteracy eradication administration said in a statement issued on the occasion of the International Literacy Day, celebrated on August 8.
A total of 5 million took literacy classes over 2003-2011, underscored the same source, noting that 80% of the beneficiaries are females, 50% of whom are from rural areas.
The literacy centers reached 14,700, including 7,850 in rural areas, with 17,800 literacy supervisors.
