A total of 1521 lists have been filed, for Morocco’s general election due on November 25, in the 92 local constituencies, with an average of 16 lists per electoral district, said Friday evening Moroccan Interior Minister, Taib Cherqaoui, in a press release.
“According to preliminary, temporary data collected immediately after the end of the period for filing nomination papers, the number of lists submitted in respect of local electorate districts, 92, reached a total of 1521 or an average of 16 lists each constituency, knowing that the number of lists presented per electorate district is between 4 and 28,” said the Minister.
Regarding data on heads of the electorate lists, by gender, it appears that 1464 are men, which is 96.25%, and 57 lists are led by women (3.75%), Cherqaoui pointed out.
He added that the new candidates to be at the top of the local lists rose to 87.57%, while deputies who seek re-election represent 12,43%.
With regard to age, 36.03% are under the age of 45, 36.16% were aged between 45 and 55 and 27.81% have over 55, said the statement, adding that 59.43% of the heads of lists have a higher education level and 29.91% have a high school, the Minister said.
He recalled that the provincial administrative authorities responsible for receiving nomination papers rejected more than 25 applications for reasons of ineligibility to vote.
Once the final results of candidates are fixed, the final data will be announced, including those relating to national lists of women and youth, concluded the Minister.
