Since the arrival of Mariano Rajoy in La Moncloa, many things are changing in the Spanish Popular Party. Winner of the last parliamentary elections, Mariano Rajoy, whom we know does not cherish the Sharifian kingdom, was surprised by the conduct of legislative elections in Morocco and especially by the results.
Moroccan voters, in fact, gave a considerable advantage to both political parties whose positions on Ceuta and Melillia are almost identical.
And while the PP maintains years of relations with the Istiqlal, it knows nothing, however, about the Islamists. No official contact ever took place between the two parties. “The only time we met was in the context of parliamentary visits exchanged by the legislative bodies of both countries,” said a senior official of the PP.
Now, informed sources in Madrid state that immediately after his inauguration before the Cortes, the new Spanish Prime Minister will visit Morocco. The date could fall sometime shortly after December 24 and the visit will last only a few hours, which will be sufficient for Rajoy to meet with King Mohammed VI and the newly appointed prime minister, Abdelilah Benkirane.
According to leaders of the PP, the Iberian party wants to open a new page in its relations with the Sharifian kingdom after the painful episode of the islet -Perijil Leila-which had cast a shadow over the two countries when Jose Maria Aznar governed Spain.
