Moroccan athletes have continued their legacy in track and field games scoring the highest number of medals in the 21st Pan Arab Games Championship in Doha, which will close on Friday.
During the five days of the track and field competitions, Moroccan athletes won 24 medals for Morocco, including 11 gold, 4 silver and 9 bronze medals.
Qatar, the host country of the Pan Arab Games, came in second place with 13 medals including 6 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze medals, while Saudi Arabia came third with 7 medals, 6 gold and 1 bronze.
This achievement affirms the deserved supremacy of Moroccan athletes in track and field games, which was pronounced in last year’s Arab championship hosted by the UAE in Al Ain from 26 to 29 October 2010. Then, the Moroccan team won the title for the third year in a row.
The Moroccan athletics earned 27 medals in the Al Ain competition, including 10 gold, 9 silver and 8 bronze medals.
At the eleventh edition, held in Cairo in 2007, the Moroccan team won 22 medals in total, including 10 gold, 8 silver and 4 bronze medals.
The results as of the fifth day of the track and field competition are as follows:
1. Morocco: 11 Gold medals, 4 Silver and 9 Bronze: 24 in total.
2. Qatar: 6 Gold, 3 Silver and 4 Bronze: 13 in total.
3. Saudi Arabia: 6 Gold and 1 Bronze: 7 in total.
4. Egypt: 5 Gold, 12 Silver and 5 Bronze: 22 in total.
5. Tunisia: 4 Gold, 5 Silver and 3 Bronze: 12 in total.
6. Bahrain: 4 Gold, 4 Silver and 6 Bronze: 14 in total.
7. Algeria: 3 Gold, 3 Silver and 3 Bronze: 9 in total.
8. Kuwait: 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze: 5 in total.
9. UAE: 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze: 5 in total.
10. Iraq: 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 3 Bronze: 5 in total.
11. Djibouti: 1 Gold, 1 Silver: 2 in total.
12. Lebanon: 1 Gold, 1Silver: 2 in total.
13. Sudan: 5 Silver and 4 Bronze: 9 in total.
14. Oman: 3 Silver and 2 Bronze: 5 in total.
15. Jordan: 1 Bronze.
