The major events of the year 2011 and the Moroccans’ expectations for the year 2012 are the main subjects dealt with by the editorials of Moroccan weeklies issued on Saturday.
“Challenge” says that in 2011 Morocco has, amid turmoil in many Arab countries, adopted a new constitution that places the Kingdom among advanced democracies.
For the editorial writer, “the coming year involves challenges,” stressing that at the political level, the new government and its majority are required to set up the institutions provided for by the Constitution.
It points out, however, that “the economic challenges are more important, especially with regard to the euro area crisis, hence the need to develop a strategic vision to reach new markets and thus reduce our dependence vis-à-vis the EU.”
For “Finances News Hebdo”, the major event of 2011 is the adoption of the new Constitution which “heralded a major turning point in the history of the kingdom.”
It notes, however, that the political issues are the subject of debate as the Kingdom is still awaiting the formation of a government.
For its part, “L’Observateur du Maroc” states that the year 2011 was marked by two historic events: the Arab spring and the euro zone crisis.
“It’s an environment which involves economic, social and security challenges. Morocco must brace itself with a strategy that fits its situation,” the editorial says.
