Morocco is organizing a contest to name Miss Morocco 2012 on the 4th of February at Mazagan Beach Resort in El Jadida, which will respect local traditions and customs and without violating the contestants’ intimacy. Morocco’s Miss 2012 contest won’t be subjected to the international standards of most beauty contests in terms of the conditions that are going to be respected and adhered to. Contestants won’t have to wear bathing suits, which allows the participation of some women who otherwise would not be able to take part.
Currently, castings are continuing in different cities and the organizers will soon arrive to Tangier, the last point of a long journey that has gone through several regions. Three candidates from each region will be selected for the semi-finals. The goal is to select 12 girls for the evening final which will be broadcast live on television. The organizers of the event promise a remarkable evening where national and international personalities will be present.
Such an event, which is deemed as blind imitation of the West and which has also been criticized for its various connotations regarding the position of women especially in a Muslim country, has been modified this year.
The chance given to veiled girls to contend for Miss Morocco 2012 is believed by many people to be an attempt to distract the attention of protests and to avoid criticism that have been issued in previous years by Islamists.
The organizing committee of the contest declares that they have no objection to the participation of veiled girls since the criteria to win the competition will be basically focused on characteristics of beauty, personality, as well as intelligence.
According to the same source, Miss Morocco’s 2012 contest will be very much distinguished for being a mix between contemporary modern standards and between the elements of inherited traditions and customs. The organizing committee of the contest emphasizes that the contestants are going to be dressed in modern and traditional clothing. There will be a focus on the Kaftan, which signifies the authenticity and the beauty of Moroccan women dress.
Miss Morocco 2012 will be selected by a professional jury and the public as well. The public will be allowed to participate in the selection of Miss Morocco 2012 by voting via SMS.
There are a several required conditions to be considered during the pre-selection process, including: the contestant must be single, aged between 18 and 25, can not use wigs and colored contact lenses, and can not have any tattoos.
The crowned Miss Morocco will receive a good salary for a full year, provided by the sponsoring company, as well as a car and a check, yet to be specified, to participate for Miss Universe. She and the other 12 finalists will also get some further gifts provided by the companies sponsoring the contest. The crowned Miss Morocco 2012 is also expected to adopt a humanitarian cause to defend in national and international forums and meetings that tackle the issue.
