A new strategic vision is needed in relations between Morocco and the European Union with a view to going beyond the advanced status and deepening a partnership that is beneficial to both parties, Moroccan Foreign Minister Saad-Eddine El Othmani said on Thursday.
Morocco supports a new approach related to the European policy of good neighborliness which involves a more advanced and balanced partnership, the minister said at a press briefing following a meeting with and European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Stefan Füle.
He called for a neighborhood policy through concrete actions, reaffirming that the EU will find out that Morocco is a strong and wise partner that, besides taking into account its interests, attaches great importance to peace and stability in the region.
Morocco is ready to fulfill its part, in cooperation with the Union, in terms of backing democratic mutations and development efforts in the southern countries, he added.
Political reforms carried out thanks to efforts made by all Moroccan society’s components made Morocco a credible partner of the EU, he added, stressing the clear-sightedness of HM King Mohammed VI who proposed the bold constitutional amendment of July 9.
Stefan Füle underscored that Morocco, a crucial partner of the UE, actively contributes to the Union’s efforts seeking to fight insecurity in the Sahel region.
