Moroccan Foreign Minister Saad-Eddine El Othmani expressed a common desire to move forward in boosting relations between Morocco and the Algeria.
“There is a common will to move forward and this visit is only the beginning of a process of consultation and cooperation” between the two countries and “the implementation of this cooperation through concrete programs” El Othmani said in a statement to the press on his arrival in Algiers Monday for a two-day official visit to Algeria.
“This visit comes within the framework of the common will of both countries to take advantage of the current regional and international levels to trigger a strong momentum in bilateral relations, consolidate, further strengthen and extend these ties to other areas and new sectors,” said El Othmani.
The Foreign Minister also said that this visit will be an opportunity to consult on ways and means to revitalize the Arab Maghreb Union, saying that “changes in some countries of the AMU could give us the opportunity to transcend the difficulties in the complementarity and integration of the Maghreb.”
For his part, Algerian Foreign Minister Mourad Medelci said that the visit of Othmani in Algiers comes after the one he made on November 16 in Morocco in which a dialogue has been opened at the bilateral and Maghreb levels.
“We will continue this dialogue to develop mechanisms and programs along the lines of strengthening bilateral relations and the implementation on the ground of Maghreb aspirations,” he said.
Saad-Eddine El Othmani was greeted upon arrival at the international airport Houari Boumédiane by his Algerian counterpart Mourad Medelci in the presence of the Ambassador of Morocco in Algiers, Abdellah Belkeziz.
