The future of Morocco and Algeria lies in excellent relations and full fraternity between the two countries, Foreign Minister Saad Eddine EL Othmani said on Tuesday in Algiers.
“We are convinced that the future of Morocco and Algeria lies in excellent relations and full fraternity,” El Othmani said following talks with Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
“Today, we are living a new stage in relations between Morocco and Algeria,” he added, stressing the time-honoured ties between the Moroccan and Algerian peoples.
El Othmani, who met on Monday his Algerian peer Mourad Medelci, announced the holding in 2012 of the High Joint committee between the two countries.
“We agreed to set up a high joint committee in different sectors as well as the adoption of mechanisms for regular coordination and assessment,” he added.
“We also defined the cooperation mechanisms, that will be announced shortly, notably the continuation of regular political consultation between the Foreign ministries of both countries by meeting each six months,” El Othmani said.
El Othmani, who arrived in Algiers for a two-day first official visit, held talks with his Algerian counterpart during which they reaffirmed willingness to give new impetus to their bilateral relations and stressed the need to reinvigorate the Maghreb union.
