Moroccan Foreign Minister Saad Eddine El Othmani stressed the pressing need to “build the greater Maghreb for the good of our populations”, reaffirming that the revitalization of the Union is a conviction.
“We live in a world where isolated countries cannot meet the needs of their populations particularly with globalization and regional groupings. We are compelled to building our regional grouping which is the greater Maghreb for the good of our populations,” El Othmani told Algerian radio channel “chaîne III” on Thursday.
With the greater Maghreb, the Union’s countries will boost their economic development, he said, underlining the importance of removing obstacles impeding the revitalization of the Union through a frank dialogue.
“We should first start by aspects on which we agree: fostering cooperation in these areas and opening a frank and strategic dialogue on aspect on which we disagree,” he added.
On his recent trip to Algiers, the official recalled the setting up of a mechanism for dialogue and other mechanisms for cooperation between Morocco and Algeria.
