Morocco did not submit an official request for the withdrawal of its observers from the Arab League’s monitoring mission in Syria, Deputy Secretary General of the League Ahmed Ben Helli said on Saturday in Cairo.
“Secretary General of the Arab League did not receive any official request from Morocco to pull its observers in Syria,” said Ben Helli at a press conference.
Morocco is represented in the Arab monitoring mission in Syria by a high-level delegation composed of the Kingdom’s Ambassador to Nouakchott along with jurists and military and security experts.
Concerning the Arab League’s decision to suspend the monitoring mission, Ben Helli said that this decision was taken given the difficulties faced by the observers in fulfilling their task adding that the suspension also aims to give them a chance to assess the situation.
