Fez, February 8, 2012
JCI Fez, Junior Chamber International, organized on February 4th, 2012 a visit to the Center for the Child Protection of Girls in Ziat, Fez.
In Morocco, and throughout the whole Muslim world, these are holy days when the birth of the prophet Muhammed– Peace Be Upon Him– is celebrated, or as it is called in Arabic the “Almawlid Anabawi”.
The celebration is commemorated by Muslims all over the world who join together for such rewardable deeds as reciting from the Quran, chanting Islamic praises, telling the story of the prophet’s birth, teaching religious knowledge, slaughtering animals to feed to the poor, and gathering to thank and praise ALLAH and ask him to exalt the honor of the prophet Muhammad – Peace Be Upon Him.
In this regard, JCI Fez took the initiative to celebrate the birth of the Prophet with the girls of the center in Ziat. All the members did their best in order to bring the outside ambiance into the center. They kept most of the deeds of the celebration and integrated the girls into all the activities to enjoy the day. They incorporated them, for example, in narrating in detail the Prophet’s birth and chanting most of the Islamic chants or the “Alamdah Anabawia”. Then all the girls were invited to lunch made by the members.
The girls are between 9 and 18 years of age. However, when you look at the girls’ faces, you can imagine the hazardous situations they have indisputably endured. The majority have experienced rape, sexual harassment, and different kinds of violence.
According to the secretary of the center “most of the girls don’t receive any visits from their parents or their families. They don’t inquire about their health or the conditions of where they are. Besides, some of the girls don’t know their parents because of some reasons that remain secret. But all the girls came to this center under a court ruling.” “Although they have experienced an extremely miserable life, thanks to Allah and to the assistance of the psychologists they still keep their smiles,” she added.
Meryem Khalifa, the president of JCI Fez, stated, “JCI President Bertolt Daems has encouraged us to put our passion into action in order to achieve results.” For this reason, she promised the girls of the center at the end of the day to organize other activities form time to time and to look for new ideas that may suit each one of them. “In the upcoming meetings, the board members are going to work in dash on such activities to help those victims” Khalifa confirmed.
Always under the 8 UN Millenium Develoment Goals, the JCI Fez conducts its projects but this time has benefited from the occasion of the birth of the Prophet Muhammaed—Peace Be Upon Him– to support the girls of the center Ziat with religious principles to forget, at least, for a few hours their bitter memories.
