The best approach to be adopted by the government in treating the deplorable events that shook Tawa is listening to the protesters demands and opening dialogue with them through local political and civil society activists, professor in social sciences, Mohamed Darif said on Tuesday.
“The protests heighten and protesters feel that nobody is willing to listen to them,” he told MAP.
Darif explained that the main causes of the discontent in Taza are related to the social and economic conditions as well as the marginalization that affects the cities suburbs.
He added that a large portion of the citys youth is unemployed and that demonstrations will continue as long as corruption, bad management and rentier economy persist.
Darif said the government should not repeat the mistakes that happened in the past because of favouring the security approach in treating the causes of such protests.
The new government does not have a magic wand to find immediate solutions to numerous problems that have been aggravated for years, the professor said, adding that some parties want to use the protests for political purposes.
The government announced on Sunday the return of calm to the city after clashes that erupted in the beginning of the month.
In a statement, the government vowed to treat throught responsible dialogue the social claims that caused the incidents.
