The protests that recently took place in Taza were triggered by social demands, Secretary General of the Party of Renewal and Equity (PRE) Chakir Achahbar said on Tuesday.
Achahbar told MAP that the acts of vandalism that ravaged the city do not have any political aspect.
“No one is above the law,” Acharhbar underscored, adding that the protests reflect the climate of liberty prevailing in the Kingdom like any other democratic state.
In such circumstances, he said the government is called upon to protect the properties of citizens and the state institutions as well as protesters from trouble makers.
The government announced on Sunday the return of calm to the city after clashes and violence that erupted in the beginning of the month.
In a statement, the government vowed to treat the social claims that caused the events through responsible dialogue.
