The government is set to add a new impetus to the Moroccan diplomacy through fostering ties with Maghreban, African and western countries, Communication Minister and Government Spokesperson, Mustapha El Khalafi said on Thursday.
El Khalafi, who was speaking to Montreal-based radio station “Medias Maghreb”, said that the recent visits of Morocco’s Foreign Minister Saad Dine El Othmani to Algeria, Tunisia, Spain and Portugal mirror a political willingness to consolidate relations with neighbourly countries.
He said the Moroccan-Algerian relations will be further strengthened in view of several bilateral development programmes to be launched in various sectors.
El Khalafi recalled that Morocco put on the table an autonomy proposal to settle the Shara issue, adding that this proposal was described by the international community as “serious” and “credible”.
Concerning the incidents that shook the northeastern city of Taza, El Khalafi stressed the need for dialogue as the only means for addressing social demands, noting that the government will spare no effort to ensure security and citizens’ properties.
