The British council is launching the French version of the website Learn English. The event will be celebrated at le Palais des Congres in Marakesh on March 24th starting from 18:30. The event will showcase contemporary Moroccan music by bringing together talented music groups namely Masta Flow & Caprice feat DJ Key, Groupe El Moukhtar and DJ Mar 1. In order to make the event available to all other MENA regions, the show will be broadcasted on the British Council website.
Learn English is a free interactive website for adult English language learners. It has materials for young people, adults and professionals such as language games, stories, listening activities, grammar section and IELTS exam materials. It is a free internet based service.
The French version of the Learn English website has been designed to help learners of English in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Lebanon to develop the autonomy they need for improving their language skills outside the classroom. This will help them achieve their educational and career aspirations and also enable them to help friends, family and children have better English.
The learn English website is already available in English and Arabic in addition to other 5 languages and now the British Council is launching the French Version to fulfill all the MENA region to benefit as many people as we can.
Nic Humphries, British Council Director for English in the Middle East and North Africa has given more details about the initiative: “The French version of the LearnEnglish website will help learners in North Africa and Lebanon discover that there is a lot they can do themselves and learning like this can be enjoyable. Autonomous learning is an unfamiliar approach to learning in this part of the world but one that is going to be increasingly important in the coming decade. It is a challenge.”
The website is part of the English for the Future Program to help learners in the MENA region develop their English language skills. The program is designed by the British Council in response to the need to support English language skills development in the emerging labor market in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). It works in partnership with Ministries of Education across the MENA region and is supported by the commercial sector.
