A series of conferences will be organized in various Moroccan cities which will feature Mr. Tariq Ramadan whom the Moroccan public has been eager to receive. The conferences will take place on March 22-24 in Casablanca, Tangier, Meknes and Rabat.
Tariq Ramadan is considered as one of the most influential public speakers in the Arab world and among Western Muslims. He is a Swiss-Egyptian academic scholar, writer and Professor of Contemporary Islamic Studies in the Faculty of Oriental Studies at Oxford University. He gave various speeches and talks, and held different debates around the world about Islam and relations between Muslims and the West.
Among his books: To Be a European Muslim (1999), Muslims in France: The Way Towards Coexistence (1999), Islam, the West, and the Challenge of Modernity (2001), Globalisation Muslim Resistances (2003), Western Muslims and the future of Islam (2004), In the Footsteps of the Prophet: Lessons from the Life of Muhammad (2007), Radical Reform: Islamic Ethics and Liberation (2009), Islam, the West and the Challenges of Modernity (2009), What I Believe (2010), The quest for meaning: developing a philosophy of pluralism (2010).
The conferences agenda is as follows:
Thursday, March 22 at 7 pm: a conference will be organized by the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of Casablanca under the theme “Re-thinking Democracy: East and West, Same Dilemma”.
Friday, March 23 at 10.30 am: a conference will be organized by “Zamane” Review – Head of the journal in Casablanca under the theme “Islam, Secularism and Modernity”.
Friday, March 23 at 6 pm: a conference will be organized at the Faculty of Science and Technology in Tangier under the theme “Youth between Islamic Ethics and the Challenges of Modern Times”.
Saturday, March 24 at 3 pm: a conference organized by l’Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Arts et Métiers (ENSAM) at Mouley Ismail University in Meknes under the theme “The Arab Spring: Between Politics and Social Reflection”.
Sunday, March 25 at 8 pm: a conference organized by the Moroccan Association of Students of IAV Hassan II (Agriculture and Veterinary Institute) in Rabat under the theme “Arab Spring and Horizons of Identity Crisis”.
