The result of the final prime of the MBC program Arab Idol came contrary to everybody’s expectations.
Dounia Batma, with her outstanding talents, praise from the jury and a large popular and official support, was strongly expected to win the title of the MBC program “Arab Idol” that the Egyptian Carmen Soulaymen earned instead.
Yet, for Carmen to obtain more votes than Dounia is indeed surprising, especially that the program Arab Idol is less popular in Egypt, and most of Egyptian audience has not heard of Arab Idol.
The fact that MBC channel didn’t display the vote and the number of votes on the screen live raised the suspicions of a large audience, who expressed their irritation about the result of the final prime on various internet websites and forums.
Most of the comments posted on different social media regarded the hard luck of Dounia, despite her sparkling success through all stages of the competition, an already made choice of sponsoring companies. They all agreed that the result of the final prime is totally commercial, and neither audiences’ votes nor the points of the jury have a say in choosing the face and voice that will represent those companies.
On her official fan facebook page, Batma announced her refusal to sign the contract for the benefit of channel MBC Saudi Arabia, after the end of the final prime of the “Arab Idol” program, on Saturday night, March 24. But she didn’t reveal the content of the contract.
Batma’s close relatives say that she was very disappointed and that she turned her back to the channel officials who longed to sign a contract with her. She called on them to propose a contract to the winning Egyptian Carmen Soulaymen.
