“The Kingdom of Morocco learned with deep concern about the attack that targeted, early on Wednesday in the entrance to the city of Deraa, a convoy of the UN monitoring mission which was sent by the Security Council in implementation of the plan of the joint emissary for the UN and the Arab League, Kofi Annan,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Morocco has been involved in Arab League and Security Council efforts to find a peaceful solution since the outbreak of the crisis in Syria, said the statement, adding that the Kingdom considers this attack as a serious development that not only endangers the lives of monitors, but also threatens to undermine the efforts of the international community to find a solution and put an end to violence with a view to paving the way for a political solution within the framework of the joint emissary’s plan.
Morocco calls on all the parties to abide by the joint emissary’s plan and to avoid all that could lead to the deterioration of the situation, the same source said.
The statement held the Syrian government responsible for protecting the international monitors and called on the international community to uphold its responsibility regarding this attack.
