French President Francois Hollande is expected to hold talks with Morocco’s King Mohammed VI on Thursday afternoon at the Elysee Palace in Paris in their first encounter since the new French president took office on May 15.
The French presidency said in a statement carried by AFP that “President Francois Hollande will welcome His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco to hold talks Thursday May 24, 2012 at 16:00 (1400 GMT) at the Elysee Palace.”
Morocco is one of the closest allies of France in North Africa.
In his first reaction to the election of Socialist Francois Hollande as France’s new President, the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Saad Eddin El Otmani told the the press that the French-Moroccan relations will not be affected by the arrival of the socialists to power in France.
He stressed on the strength and depth of the countries bilateral relations and the common interest they share, especially that Morocco is considered the primary Arab and African economic and political partner for France.
