Algerian authorities seized four tonnes of cannabis packed into a van and other vehicles at the Moroccan border, officials said Wednesday.
An official told Algerian news agency APS that customs workers seized the cannabis after launching an ambush on the Mediterranean end of Algeria’s border with Morocco.
Though the Moroccan-Algerian border has been closed since 1994, following an attack that Rabat blamed on Algerian security forces, smugglers and some locals frequently cross the 400-kilometre (250-mile) international boundary.
