Moroccan human rights activists warn against the spread of sexual perversion among prisoners. The issue raised controversy, especially soon after Fouzia Labiad, an MP, admitted in several statements that there are some cases of sexual perversion during her visit to Oukasha prison in Casablanca.
While both male and female prisoners confirm the rampant existence of this sickening phenomenon, the High Commission for the management of prisons goes on to trivialize the issue and to declare that cases of this kind are seldom reported.
Hespress, a news outlet, managed to procure a testament of a prisoner named Eidia who lives on the outskirts of Rabat. Eidia admitted that she caught glimpses of sexual perverts during the 25 year period she spent in prison.
Additionally, the prisoner reveals that many well-built female prisoners exploit emaciated, young fellow prisoners’ bodies for their own sexual satisfaction either through bullying or temptation.
In an interview with Hespress, Eidia confirmed the reality of sexual perversion in cells, adding that that this reality isn’t new. Cases of male prisoners involved in the phenomenon, according to Eidia, are also present, but they are not reported. Even officials keeping vigil over cells aren’t aware of it.
Many former prisoners stress that sexual perversion is now on the rise in Moroccan prisons. Now, it goes without saying that if the phenomenon continues to aggravate, the mission of prisons will no longer be as disciplinary, formative, and reforming as is intended.
