The Moroccan constitution is the only in the region to have elevated the building of the Maghreb to a “strategic choice,” Foreign Minister Saad Eddine El Otmani said on Friday in Tunis.
In line with the new constitution, the Moroccan diplomacy puts priority on reinvigorating the Maghreb, added the Minister, who was taking part in a conference themed “the five liberties in the Maghreb, an integration vision,” held by the Tunisian presidency.
The changes that took place last year in the region added a new momentum for materializing the Maghreban dream, which had been coveted by the pioneers of the fight for independence, said El Otmani.
The Moroccan official voiced hope to see the Maghreban summit ushers a new era in the region notably through the adoption of the free trade agreement.
Speaking at the opening of the event, Tunisia’s President Moncef Marzouki expressed hope that the Maghreban summit in Tunis next October 10, 2012 will lay the basis for a Maghreb where citizens have the freedom of movement, residence and labor and where they will be free to invest and enjoy their Maghreban citizenship.
