Morocco and Canada voiced willingness to strengthen their cooperation relations during a meeting between the foreign Ministers of the two countries, Saad Dine El Otmani and John Baird respectively.
Speaking to MAP after the meeting, El Otmani said that issues relating to bilateral relatons and the situation in Syria, the Middle East and North Africa dominated the talks.
The Moroccan official highlighted the firm ties with Canada adding that the two countries are willing to further boost their economic relations.
In this respect, he said that light was shed on a potential win-win free trade agreement that will open new prospects in the two countries bilateral relations.
El Otmani also said that he examined with his Canadian peer the means to increase trade and attract more investments to Morocco.
The meeting, said El Otmani, was also an opportunity to shed light on the latest developments on the Sahara issue, following Morocco’s withdrawal of confidence from UN Secretary General’s Personal Envoy Christopher Ross.
In this connection, El Otmani highlighted Morocco’s efforts to find a lasting settlement to this regional dispute in line with UN resolution, recalling that the Kingdom put on the table an autonomy initiative which was endorsed by the international community as serious and credible.
