Contrary to what was reported by the Madrid-based sports newspaper Marca, Real Madrid won’t play in Morocco this coming July.
On May 31, the Spanish newspaper announced that Real Madrid would start its national league preparations in Morocco by playing its first pre-season friendly against the Moghreb Atletic of Tetouan (MAT). It was reported that the match would take place on July 24 in the new Grand Stadium of Tangier.’
This announcement came two days after Madrid’s rival, F.C. Barcelona, had announced that it would play a friendly match against a Moroccan local national team led by Moroccan coach Rachid Taoussi. Barcelona’s match will take place on July 28 in the Grand stadium of Tangier.
According to the Moroccan sports newspaper Al Mountakhab, the executives of F.C Barcelona have denied that Real Madrid will play in Tangier, adding that this announcement was made for the sole purpose of disturbing the coming of Barcelona to Morocco.
According to Al Mountakhab, the contract by which F.C. Barcelona will play its friendly game against the Moroccan national team stipulates that no other team can play a friendly game in the same stadium before the catalan team.
