A study conducted by Net Index Institution recently revealed that Morocco ranked 100 in terms of internet speed out of 174 countries that were tested. The study focused on the period from May 7, 2012 to June 17, 2012. According to the study, the internet speed in Morocco has been estimated at approximately 3.85 megabytes per second.
Hong Kong ranked first in the study with a speed of 37,61 megabytes per second. Second on the list is Andorra where the internet speed has reached 36.78 megabytes per second. The UK ranked 23rd with 16, 51 megabytes, the United States ranked 32nd, France 36th, Spain ranked 39th.
Algeria ranked second to last in the study. The country’s internet speed is estimated at only 0.95 megabytes per second.
This classification of the study revealed that Morocco ranks sixth. The United Arab Emirates ranked first with a speed of 10.74 megabytes per second. Qatar ranks second with a speed of 6.09 megabytes per second, followed by Saudi Arabia–with a speed of 5.36 megabytes per second, Libya—whose speed is 4.03 megabytes per second, and finally Oman with a speed of 3.88 megabytes per second.
Tunisia ranked 132nd, whereas Egypt ranked 166th.
In the same vein, the study has uncovered that among Moroccan cities, Tetouan ranks first in velocity with a speed that has reached 4.63 megabytes per second. Tmara city ranks second, where the speed is estimated at 4.62 megabytes per second, followed by Rabat with a speed of 4.45 megabytes per second and Fes with a speed of 4.36 megabytes per second.
Tangiers is ranked fifth on the national list with a speed of 4.25 megabytes per second.
Among the last cities on the list which registered slower internet speeds are: Settat with a speed of 2.63 megabytes per second, Youssufia with a speed of 2.11 megabytes per second, and finally Beni Mellal which recorded a velocity of 1.93 megabytes per second.
According to the same study, “Maroc Telecom” is in the lead in terms of internet speed, registering 4.44 megabytes per second. Wana registered 2.60 megabytes per second and Meditel reached a speed of only 1.79 megabytes per second.
