Morocco’s expulsion of the Syrian ambassador, Nabih Ismail, is a “sovereign decision” that was taken after giving every chance to the Syrian regime to respect the resolutions of the U.N. and the Arab League, Moroccan Minister delegate at the Foreign Ministry, Youssef Amrani, said Friday.
In an interview with the daily “Al Massae” published on Friday, Amrani said Morocco has actively undertaken, as the only Arab non-permanent member of the U.N. Security Council, in the efforts to settle the Syrian crisis through the presentation of the first draft resolution, pointing out that the Kingdom adoptes, in this context, a diplomatic approach based on the immediate and complete cessation of violence, the promotion of political dialogue as part a democratic transition, respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria and the cohesion of its pluralist social fabric.
He said that Morocco is determined to continue its efforts to achieve a peaceful solution based on national reconciliation between all components of Syrian society, adding that “our country will host” the fourth meeting of the “Friends of Syria ” Group. Morocco has already participated in three previous meetings of this important event held in Tunis, Paris and Istanbul.
