US Assistant Secretary of State for Economic, Energy and Business Affairs José Fernandez said that US companies are interested in Morocco’s forward looking solar energy project which is being carried out for an estimated cost of 9 billion dollars.
“Several US companies are looking forward to participating in Morocco’s solar project,” Fernandez said in an interview with Morocco’s news agency MAP.
Highlighting Morocco’s pioneering step in the region to develop the share of solar energy in electricity production, the US official said that companies in his country are willing to grab the investment opportunities offered in Morocco in this field.
Morocco’s solar energy project is in line with the international trend to make up for the increasing demand on energy and reduce the effects of climate change, he said, adding that the Kingdom is on the path of becoming a world reference in the field of developing solar energy.
On the Morocco-USA Free Trade Agreement, the US official said that thanks to this agreement the Kingdom has become a trade hub for US companies in their quest to conquer new markets in Africa and the Middle East.
José Fernandez expressed satisfaction with the steady development of Morocco’s infrastructure especially motorways.
Morocco has accessed the top 5 of the most important Arab markets for Washington, The National US-Arab Chamber of Commerce (NUSACC) said, noting that the American imports volume with Morocco exceeded 2.86 billion dollars in 2011, that is a 47% increase compared to 2010.
