A reform and political thought leader in North Africa, Morocco knew how to rise up to the challenges of democratic transition, British Ambassador Tim Morris said.
In an article published by the Moroccan daily Le Matin du Sahara et du Maghreb, the British diplomat said Morocco is forging ahead with reforms.
On Morocco’s new constitution, Morris said that the July 1, 2011 referendum heralded a new era of commitment to human rights and democratic values.
He added that the last parliamentary elections reinforced the rendition of accounts and added a new momentum to politics in Morocco with the emergence of a head of government from the party that won most seats in parliament.
The British Ambassador also noted the new energy marking the parliamentary action.
On the reform of the judiciary, Morris commended the willingness to reinvigorate the sector adding that this reform represents a prelude to strengthening transparency and democracy as well as attracting more investments.
Great Britain welcomes the progress achieved by Morocco, he said, expressing satisfaction regarding the Moroccan-British partnership.
