Ayoub Madani, a young man of 19 years died in the swimming pool of Diamand Vert on August 12, in Fez.
The young man wouldn’t have breathed his last at the bottom of the pool had he received necessary help at the right time.
Some witnesses have warned the lifeguards, who are in charge of the safety of the swimmers, that they have seen a human body at the bottom of the pool, but the lifeguards did not take the warning seriously.
“Diamand Vert” is one of the most expensive pools in Fez. However, basic conditions of safety, such as light and a sufficient number of lifeguards, seem not to be among the top priorities of the administration of the pool.
This is not the first time that “Diamand Vert” has taken the life of a person because of the irresponsibility of its staff. Other fatal cases have occurred in recent years.
The tragic case of Ayoub should not sunk into oblivion, as the case of other previous victims of the same pool. It should be rather brought to the public attention and taken to justice.
The local civil society of fez started circulating his picture on Facebook calling local authorities to investigate the case of Ayoube, putting the blame on the Diamand Vert staff who, according to them, showed carelessness to the swimmers’ persistent warnings.
In all public venues in Morocco, be they swimming pools, beaches, malls, etc., to ensure the safety of the public has never been among the priorities of the owners or the authorities in charge. Countless lives have been lost over the years across the country, because of the negligence and carelessness of the authorities.
