Rabat – King Mohammed VI on Monday commended the role played by Moroccans living in the progress of their home country, as well as in defending its interests in their countries of residence.
During a speech on the occasion of the 59th anniversary of the King and People’s Revolution, he also stressed their attachment to their home country, adding that the Moroccan community living abroad is at the heart of his concerns and his plans for the future.
“I always put Moroccan citizens living abroad at the heart of our concerns and of our plans for the future. This is what we did with respect to the reform of the Family Law and the Nationality Act, with all the symbolic meaning of that reform. We have also amended the Constitution and introduced unprecedented provisions with regard to the rights of the Moroccan expatriate community,” the King said.
King Mohammed VI went on to stress his eagerness to protect the identity, rights and interests of the Moroccan community living abroad, especially in the context of the European crisis.
By the same token, the Moroccan monarch also highlighted his keenness to endeavor for the implementation of the provisions of the new constitution, in a way that would enable Moroccans living abroad to fully partake in the political life of their home country and contribute in shaping it’s future.
“We are keen to ensure full implementation of the provisions of the Constitution, which grants you the right to play as large a part as possible in the shaping of the nation’s future. Furthermore, it provides for you to be represented in the supervisory bodies of the forthcoming institutions and to play an active role in their work,” he added.
