Algerian President, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, affirmed his “strong commitment” to strengthen ties with Morocco in a message forwarded on Sunday to King Mohammed VI on the occasion of the anniversary of the king and People’s Revolution.
The king and People’s Revolution’s Anniversary is an important event that Moroccans commemorate proudly every August 20th. It is an occasion to remember and pay tribute to the struggle led by the father of the Nation, the late King Mohammed V, against the French occupation, and to those who sacrificed their lives in order to free their country from colonial rule.
“While I am joining you on this happy occasion, I assure you of my firm determination to continue to work together with you to develop fraternal relations, good neighborliness and cooperation between our two countries and our two peoples, “said Mr. Bouteflika, according to APS.
The peoples of both neighboring countries are still waiting for the borders to open in order to meet again with their families after many years apart.
Signs of probable reconciliations and rapprochement between the two countries have started in the wake of the Arab Spring, particularly after the foreign ministers of the Maghreb countries met in Algiers on July 9, in order to revive the Arab Maghreb Union.
Leaders of the five countries will then hold a summit in Tunisia before the end of the year.
