A video circulating on Facebook is creating uproar in Morocco and stirring a debate over the conditions of health facilities in the country, as well as the treatment afforded to indigent patients.
A doctor at the Mohammed VI Hospital in Marrakesh is believed to have expelled a patient suffering from a festered injury in his toe. According to the patient, while he was waiting in the operating room to undergo an operation to amputate his suppurated toe, the doctor asked him to sign a paper certifying that he agrees that his right food be amputated.
When the 58-year old patient, who suffers from diabetes and blood pressure, inquired about the reason behind the doctor’s decision to amputate his foot, the later allegedly abused him verbally and expelled him from the operating room. The patient appeared in the square of the hospital while wearing only his underpants.
