Marjane Holding’s administration has recently decided to stop selling alcoholic beverages in most of its supermarkets across Morocco. Upon this decision, notifications have instantly been sent to clients and providers all over Marjane commercial centers.
Coinciding with the end of Ramadan, this unprecedented decision has taken aback many Marjane clients as soon as they noticed that alcoholic beverages booths were closed.
“We were surprised to learn that some stores of Marjane were instructed not to sell alcoholic beverages. At the moment we have received notifications from without further explanation, “ one of Marjane’s providers was quoted by the weekly magazine Les Echo as saying.
So far, Marjane hasn’t justified the decision, and clients and providers alike wonder about the reasons that prompted the holding to stop selling alcoholic beverages.
One of the most likely reasons could lay in the purchase by some investors from Gulf of a part of the holding’s shares. These investors are believed to have expressed their reservation regarding the sale of alcoholic beverages in Marjane supermarkets.
