A total of nine people, including six members of the same family, were killed in a well in eastern Algeria after a failed rescue operation, the country’s APS news agency reported.
It said two civil defence workers and a neighbour were also among the dead, while five others were injured, after attempts to rescue a first person who fell down the well in Ali Mendjeli near the city of Constantine.
APS did not specify how the nine died but said an investigation has been opened into the tragedy.
