Foreign Minister, Saad Eddine el Othmani called, Thursday in New York, on the international community to adopt a “unified vision” to end the crisis in Syria, which has claimed thousands of innocent victims and more refugees, pleading for a four-fold action to reverse the deterioration of the humanitarian situation.
El Othmani called on the international community to provide further humanitarian assistance to the Syrian people, reminding the Syrian government of its “duty to open up the way for humanitarian organizations and facilitate access to all Syrian regions.”
UN figures show that more than three million people are victims of the Syrian crisis, including 2.5 million in need of immediate humanitarian assistance and over a million displaced people are facing extreme poverty.
The Foreign minister hailed the efforts made by Syria’s neighboring countries, namely Jordan, Turkey, Iraq and Lebanon, and their “solidarity and generosity” towards the masses of refugees, whose number is estimated by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) at over 200,000 people, in addition to tens of thousands of non-registered victims whose inflows is set to rise due to the increasing violence in Syria and the use heavy weapons and combat aircraft.
Morocco, el Othmani recalled, has sent a humanitarian and logistics assistance to help the Syrian refugees in Jordan, including a field hospital deployed in the camp Zaatari, noting that Morocco is in permanent contact with the Syrian Red Crescent, the neighboring countries and the UNHCR in order to contribute to the ongoing efforts of humanitarian assistance to the Syrian people.
He stressed that the north African kingdom, the only Arab country in the UNSC, has been constantly working in concert with the states of the Arab League to end violence and pave the way for a political solution to the Syrian crisis in line with the democratic aspirations of the Syrian people.
