Mohammed Mbarki, a former Moroccan Minister of Habitat during the Government of Abderrahman Youssefi (1998-20o2), a former governor of Tetouan and current president of the Oriental region, which comprises the city of Oujda and its region, is believed to have been appointed Minister of Vocational and Educational Training in the new Algerian government announced on Wednesday.
The Moroccan people were taken aback when they saw the picture of Mr. Mbarki displayed on the Algerian TV Ennahar as one of the newly appointed Ministers.
Contacted by Morocco World News, Siham Mbarki, the former Minister’s wife, was at first unaware of this fact, before she confirmed that people in Oujda had, indeed, seen Mr. Mbarki on the Algerian TV and the Algerian authorities had not denied what at first appeared to be a rumor.
“The Algerian TV has broadcast it and the whole region of Oujda is aware of his appointment. The Algerians have not officially denied his appointment. “In the beginning I thought it was a mistake,” Ms. Siham Mbraki told MWN.
“I am really shocked to learn that he is related to the Algerians. The Algerian and the Moroccan governments are the only ones bale to deny this and determine whether it is an error or not. I am only a simple citizen who has been informed as everyone else by the Algerian TV,” she added.
Moroccans did not believe this to be true and many wondered whether it was mistake made by the Algerian TV or its was done on purpose.
Others said this might be a sheer coincidence, adding that there are many Moroccans who have the same names as Algerians. Up until now, neither the Moroccan authorities nor Mr. Mohamed Mbarki have denied the alleged appointment of a former Moroccan minister in the Algerian government.
