Morocco is determined to continue to fully cooperate with the UN Secretary-General towards achieving a final solution to the artificial dispute over the Sahara, within the framework of respect for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, Moroccan minister delegate for foreign affairs said Wednesday in Rabat.
In his address to the Moroccan-Spanish Parliamentary Forum, Youssef Amrani recalled that Morocco has responded seriously and with sincerity and responsibility to calls by the UN Security Council to achieve a consensual, final political solution to the artificial dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, by presenting the bold autonomy initiative which has been welcomed by the international community as a serious, credible option and a real, promising basis for a final settlement of the dispute.
With the same determination, Morocco has engaged in the new momentum triggered by the autonomy initiative with the Security Council support, through the UN-sponsored negotiation process, when the Security Council urged the parties to adopt a spirit of consensus and realism as the basis for serious, intensive negotiations, with the aim of reaching a final political solution.
In this regard, the minister insisted that the resolution of this issue will realize energies to devote efforts to consolidating the Arab Maghreb Union.
Building on this principle, he concluded, HM King Mohammed VI has expressed Morocco’s constant resolve to sincerely cooperate towards reviving the Arab Maghreb Union and reactivate its institutions, given the role this regional bloc can play in establishing a successful partnership and achieving peace and stability in both neighboring countries and the region as a whole.
