Youssef Hadji, the former Moroccan striker, called on the Moroccan Federation of Football to dismiss Eric Gerets, the coach of the Moroccan national team.
In an interview in the radio show Luis Attaque on Radio Monte Carlo International, Mustapha Hadji blamed the disastrous loss of the so-called Atlas Lions against Mozambique on the Belgian coach.
“I have been worried for a long time because of Eric Gerets and this is unfortunate. It is one thing to coach a national team, and a different thing to coach a team in a given national league. With due respect to him, it’s time that Gerets left,” Mustapha Hadji said.
The Moroccan national team on Sunday lost 2-0 to Mozambique in the first leg of the African Cup of Nations qualifiers. For Moroccan fans this loss was the last straw.
Since the elimination of the Moroccan team in the first round of the last African Cup of Nations, held last winter in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, Moroccan fans have been calling on the Federation of Football to dismiss Eric Gerets and replace him with a Moroccan coach.
