The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) will host next Monday September 17 in Chefchaoun, 152 miles (245 km) North West of Rabat, a round table under the theme: “Misrepresentation of the Prophet (PBUH): Background Context, Repercussions and Alternative Reactions.
The discussion will be held in parallel to the International Conference taking place on September 17 and 18 in coordination with the Organization for Islamic Preaching under the theme “The ISESCO and Muslims in the West.”
A number of seasoned researchers in culture, media and law from the Islamic world as well as the west will be taking part to this event.
The discussion will revolve around the common stereotypes about Islam in Western media, their potential repercussions and the need to enforce the Decision N° 224/65 issued by the UN General assembly against defamation of religions.
The participants are also expected to discuss the role of Islamic organizations in the West in enforcing legal and academic procedures to redress the distorted image of Islam and its symbols in Western media, in addition to the consolidation of coexistence and dialogue among different cultures and religions.
The ISESCO attempts to face the defamation campaigns against Islam and the Islamic civilization and more particularly the film that castigates the prophet Mohammed (PBUH) and vilifies his holy person.
It is noteworthy that the amateur film posted on you tube under the title “Innocence of Muslims” has triggered wide waves of protests across the world.
The most violent protests took place in Libya where protestors stormed the American embassy and killed the American ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens and three other staff members in a fiery attack on the US consulate in Benghazi.
