Jamil Molaeb, a Lebanese artist interweaves traditional with modern painting creating a new twist to art.
Molaeb was born in 1948 in Aley, Lebanon. In 1973, he moved to Algeria where he studied and graduated and found his interest in the fine arts. His passion for art took him to New York, where he amassed a wealth of experience which he eventually passed on to his students in Lebanon. In 1976 and 1977, he worked on many black and white paintings.

In the 1960’s, he received the Nicolas Sursock Museum Award for sculpture.
“That was my early artistic encounter; I was only 15. When I was a kid, I used to design my own trolley and load it with stuff from the farms,” Molaeb said.
He added that during his youth he felt enchanted by the beauty of his home town.
Images of bricks, trees and buildings from Aley are evident in his paintings.
“Sometimes, when I draw people, I find myself talking to them,” said the Lebanese artist.
About 100 artworks of Molaeb are on displayed in the “House of Art and Literature” depicting Algeria in 1974. These paintings were his very first steps in the new world of his artistic vision that was neither a traditional Eastern vision nor a Western one; his techniques were rather modern.
In 1991 and 1992, Molaeb was the secretary of the Lebanese Artists Association, Painters and Sculptors (LAAPS).
The fine artist manipulates his art tools and puts them upside down on his canvas. Art lovers appreciated Molabs paintings which embrace a wealth of knowledge of modern art and heritage of the past from the days of Pharaohs and Babylon.
