This is the question that Moroccan political actors raise emphatically nowadays. But it is no longer a secret that the Ministry of Interior plans to hold the next provincial and regional elections in early June.
Several parties, including the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS), which belongs to the majority coalition, had urged the Minister of Interior, Mohand Laenser, to make the necessary arrangements in order to set up the institutions provided for under the new constitution adopted in July 2011.
It seems that everything is now in place to launch an electoral consultation that would be an indicator of the health of the PJD, the Islamist party that leads the ruling coalition, as well as for other political formations.
That being said, some political observers in Morocco cast doubt on the likelihood that elections would be held by that date. Organic laws on regionalization and the reform of the Charter of the local authorities have not yet been finalized.
