The RealMadrid Foundation, of the Spanish heavyweight football team, joined forces with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) to conduct training courses in Palestine.
UNRWA released a statement on its website saying that the two bodies have signed a partnership agreement to promote sports programs in UNRWA schools to contribute in improving the education and wellbeing of Palestinian refugee children.
“This partnership agreement will lead to the establishment of eight Social Sport Schools in the Gaza Strip and West Bank in which 10,000 Palestine refugee children will participate,” according to the statement.
“The education of new generations, who constitute the future, is the essential axis of peace-building in the Middle East,” Filippo Grandi, UNRWA Commissioner-General said at the event which took place in the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in Madrid.
President of RealMadrid Foundation and Real Madrid FC, Florentino Perez, said that it was an honor for the foundation to extend to Palestine.
“The power of football and the grip of Real Madrid are a beautiful combination that should be present in the world of solidarity,” he said. “In Real Madrid, we are convinced that this work in Palestine is an open door to future and deep collaborations.”
RealMadrid Foundation and UNRWA will collaborate in implementing eight Social Sports Schools throughout Gaza and the West Bank which will aims to reach more than 10,000 children in the areas.
