Rich trendsetters are now able to get their hands on the latest, glam mobile gadgetry to hit the world’s luxury shelves this week – an iPhone 5 drenched in gold.
The release of the first 24-carat coated iPhone 5, available in yellow and rose gold, debuted in Dubai on Thursday, attracting crowds of onlookers.
And the price?
Gadget lovers can dish out 17,000 AED ($4,628) for the yellow gold and black model, and pay a few more bucks to get the rose gold and white option, available for 18,500 AED.
“Each custom-made phone is individually numbered and comes in a hand-crafted wooden box with a certificate of authenticity,” the Dubai-based 7Days newspaper reported
The gold-coated phones were first unveiled at the London-based Gold & Co. on Monday, according to newspaper.
The report stated that the phone will now go on sale in the region at Gold & Co.’s authorized dealers, such as Damas in the Middle East.
Gold & Co. was the first in the world to offer the iPad 2 and iPad 3 in 24-carat gold.
Amjad Ali, the firm’s CEO, said in a statement: “The iPhone 5 is an extraordinary piece of technology and we are delighted to bring yet another 24-carat gold, and our first rose gold, offering to our loyal customers.”
Five million units of the recently launched iPhone 5 were reportedly sold worldwide in the three days since the smartphone made its way onto the shelves last week.
But buyers in the UAE may have to mull their purchase wisely.
A report earlier this week found telephone companies in the UAE provide SIM cards that cannot fit in iPhone 5 and this may pose a problem for its fans and may consequently lead to the devaluation of the smartphone.
