Moroccans across the planet were appalled to see the Moroccan Minister of Education, Mohammed El Ouafa, talking in two videos in which he showed to what extent he is fit to occupy his position. In the first video, he appears talking with unprecedented disdain about school teachers and showing no sympathy towards them. In the second and more scandalous one, he dared to say that Moroccan schools are good and even better that American schools. “Even Obama in his country he does not have schools as good as the ones we have in Morocco,” he said.
To the Minister, I would like to say the following: If our schools are better than the American ones, why do we ask for reform?
Teachers must drink what the minister drinks so as to see our schools with the minister’s eyes.
The problem is not in the schools nor in the programs, the problem is what teachers drink before they go to schools.
The heart of the problem lies in the fact that teachers and the minister do not drink the same drink, that’s why they do not see the same things the same way. Teachers see ladies working at schools as poor secretaries, while the minister sees them as the headmasters’ girlfriends.
We should forgive our drivers, because they drink from the same bottles the minister drinks from. That’s why they see our roads better than the American roads and that’s why they drive faster than the American drivers. That’s why also they break records in the number of death and causalities.
While we are drinking salty water, eating unhealthy food and suffering in the deserted and remote areas to teach, teachers in our country wonder why the people in the ministry do not hear our voices and do not understand our pains and agonies. Here is the answer: they drink Russian and French bottles and they break the bottles on our heads. They envy us and think we are better than American teachers.
The UNISCO ‘s experts didn’t drink what The Minister drank when he was saying that our schools are better than American schools. That’s why they saw that our schools and our educational system deserved to be ranked at the bottom of the list worldwide.
The Minister forgot to share the same drink with them so as to enable them to see the American schools the man sees and believes he has…
It is true that Obama doesn’t have schools like ours. If America had the same schools we have in Morocco, they would not be leading the world.
America does not only have schools like ours. America does not either have the chance to have a well-mannered and well-spoken minister of education like ours. If America had ministers of educations like ours, God knows what would happen to the American people, schools, society and the so-called American dream.
Our respectable minister reminded me of a joke said that one day Hitler lost a battle where thousands of German soldiers died during World War two. After the defeat, Hitler started giving a speech in front of his soldiers talking about a great victory and the war that they won, repeating many time: ’we won this battle, yes we won this battle.’ The soldiers looked at each other wondering what battle and what victory does the man talked about. Suddenly, an officer went towards Hitler and murmured in his ear “Only another victory like this, and we will be gone forever.”
It will take Morocco a Minister like Mr. El Ouafa, and our education system will be gone forever.
If our schools are better than America, then Smara is better than Washington and New York and the minister’s house is better than the White House.
