Many bus stations all over Morocco have been in a state of flux since this morning because of the strike by bus drivers, which came without warning.
This sudden strike has created a state of chaos and protests by citizens in nearly all Moroccan bus stations which has led the authorities to permanently close some stations.
MWN was there in the bus station of Taroudant and listened to the grievances of some passengers who were in desperate need of means of transportation in order to arrive on time for doctor appointments, while others were complaining of not being able to be on time for scheduled appointments arranged with foreign embassies and public administrations in Agadir and Marrakech.
As usual, taxis took advantage of the situation to force passengers to pay obscene rates that exceeded 100-percent the usual price of some trips between Moroccan cities.
According to the comments of some drivers, this unexpected strike came as a reaction to some recent harsh decisions and measures taken by the Ministry of Transport against buses companies immediately after the tragic accident of Haouz, which was the worst in Morocco’s history of road accidents .
