Less than after the breakout of violent protests across the Muslim world against an amateurish film ridiculing the Prophet Mohammed, and the appearance of ads on the New York subway likening Arabs and Muslims to savages, two Christians and 1 Jewish groups decided to stand up against hate-mongering campaigns and promote a message of peace, respect, love and coexistence between Muslims, Jews and Christians.
The three groups, made up of two Christian organizations called Sojourners Magazine and United Methodist Women and a Jewish Rabbis Human Rights- North America, are paying for the promotion of advertisements that aim at countering hate against Muslims in New York.
According to the leaders of the three groups, their advertisements will be placed next to the anti-Jihad ads that were placed in 10 subway stations in New York more late last month.
The ads that will be placed by the Jewish Rabbis for Human Rights will counterbalance the ads placed by the anti-Israeli group, American Freedom Defense Initiative. Whereas the ads promoted by the latter say “In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel,” the ads promoted by the former will promote the following message: “In the choice between love and hate, choose love. Help stop bigotry against our Muslim neighbors.”
The ads promoted by Sojourners Magazine call on Christians to love their Muslims neighbors. “Love your Muslim neighbors”, the ads say.
On Wednesday, the United Methodist Women placed ads in the same 10 subway stations where the anti-Islam ads are displayed. The ads invite Christians to abstain from resorting to hate speech and urge them to promote peace. “Hate speech is not civilized. Support peace in word and deed,” say their ads.
